For your child to start school with an increased ability and confidence in written text.
Extend your child's vocabulary and sense of how sounds fit together.
Enhance your child's early years journey, with a preschool activity enjoyed by parent and child.
For parents and carers to take away some great idea's to use at home.
Increase parents and carers understanding of phonics, to enable them to be confident in supporting their child's learning in reading.
Little Learner Phonics came about when Founder, Lydia Grove, was an educational specialist working with a variety of primary and secondary aged students in reading and writing skills. Lydia saw that literacy standards across the New Zealand educational system were struggling and that by building the foundational skills of phonetic awareness – this would support both parents and young children entering school to have a foundation to rely on to achieve literacy for life.
Lydia has been an educational specialist with a background in educational psychology and has been the Director of the Karori Kip McGrath Centre since 2003. She has finished her Masters in Psychology through Massey University and her training as a Jolly Phonics Professional Trainer. Previously, Lydia worked as a Children and Youth Specialist in both Auckland and Wellington City Council Libraries running preschool story-times, homework support centres and holiday literacy programmes in Mount Wellington, Karori and Cummings Park Libraries.
Lydia has combined 16 years of primary and secondary teaching, love of literacy and fun of preschool story-times with this award-winning United Kingdom based educational program to build an outstanding, interactive and fun learning experience for both parents and preschoolers.
